Our family loves golden retrievers. I don't think we will ever have another breed of dog! With three children, two bunnies, and four chickens, our house has provided the perfect environment to raise gentle dogs.
After our second child was born, my husband, Tanner, was watching Youtube videos all about Golden Retriever puppies. We could not imagine a cuter dog, or a better match for our family! After many hours of research, we decided to start looking for our first Golden. We connected with some wonderful breeders in West Jordan, Utah, and met our Katie Bear for the first time! She was a puppy who was social, mellow, and so smart. We had weekly visits with her until we were finally able to take her home.
Her first few days were full of sleeping, playing, and cuddling. She learned how to go in and out of the dog door very quickly. We played with her food while she ate to avoid later food regression. We completed mini sessions of basic obedience. We exposed her to many dogs, surfaces, people, weather, and situations. We were determined to socialize her as much as possible.
After Katie turned two years old, we decided that we wanted to search for a male dog to consider breeding with her. We once again dove back into research to be sure we were responsible breeders. We had a military and police dog trainer evaluate Katie for her temperament, during advanced training, and had the vet assess her health. We connected with a golden breeder in Price, Utah, and made the long trek to meet Max and his brother. How on earth do you choose between two precious puppies?!
When we met Max, I knew he was the one. He immediately raced up to greet us, and I was so impressed with his sociability. His unique white star was also so adorable, of course. Max was lively, but willing to sit for some love. After he came home, we dove into the same routine of socialization and training as Katie. We were impressed by how smart he was. He adores people and getting love. Instead of the typical puppy jumps and crazy behaviors, Max loves to receive attention. He finds people instead of dogs, when we are out and about. Max will make a fantastic therapy dog.

After carefully considering the temperaments of both dogs, and having a third, unbiased party assess them, we decided that they would be breeding candidates to better the breed. Before officially breeding, we got the final health check off from our local vet.
So, with the addition of two lovebugs, our lives have become forever golden!
